AI Functionality in HELM

Next-generation supply chain, powered by AI. The HELM 2026 release streamlines operations and reduces manual effort across the warehouse.

As part of the HELM 2026 release, Humanitarian Software is introducing a new generation of AI-powered capabilities designed to streamline operations and reduce manual effort across the supply chain. At the forefront of this innovation is AI-driven item identification and setup — a feature that transforms how organizations manage their Item Master data and receiving workflows.

Automated item identification

HELM’s new AI capabilities let users identify products using as little as an item number, a barcode, or even a photo of the product.

By leveraging advanced AI models and integrated data sources, HELM can automatically interpret product details and match or create items within the system. This dramatically reduces the time and effort traditionally required to research and manually enter item data.

Intelligent Item Master creation

When a new item is encountered, HELM can now automatically generate a complete Item Master record, including:

  • Product descriptions and classifications
  • Units of measure and packaging details
  • Dimensions, weights, and volume
  • Pharmaceutical data (when applicable)
  • Estimated valuation and cost references

Instead of building records from scratch, users are presented with a pre-populated, AI-generated item profile that only requires review and approval.

Seamless receiving without delays

One of the biggest operational challenges in warehouse environments is the delay caused by missing or incomplete item setup. With AI-powered item creation, warehouse teams can keep receiving products without interruption. As items are scanned or identified, HELM generates the necessary records in real time — allowing goods to flow into inventory without waiting for manual setup.

This results in:

  • Faster receiving processes
  • Reduced bottlenecks
  • Improved throughput in high-volume environments

Data accuracy and human control

While AI handles the heavy lifting, HELM maintains full control and accountability. Item Master controllers can review, adjust, and approve AI-generated records, ensuring all data meets organizational standards. Over time, the system learns from user feedback, continuously improving the accuracy and relevance of generated data. This balance of automation and human oversight delivers both efficiency and data integrity.

Built for humanitarian supply chains

HELM’s AI capabilities are designed specifically for the complex realities of humanitarian logistics. Whether handling donated goods, pharmaceuticals, or mixed inventory, the system adapts to varying levels of data quality and product standardization. That makes it especially valuable in environments where:

  • Donations arrive with limited or inconsistent data
  • New products are frequently introduced
  • Speed and accuracy are critical to mission success

The result

With AI-powered item identification and setup, HELM reduces manual workload, accelerates receiving, and improves data quality across the system. By eliminating one of the most time-consuming aspects of warehouse operations, organizations can focus more on their mission — and less on administrative overhead. As HELM continues to evolve, AI will play an increasingly important role in helping organizations operate faster, smarter, and with greater confidence.
